The parietal lobe is a region of the cerebral cortex in the brain, located above the temporal lobe and behind the frontal lobe. It plays a significant role in processing sensory information from the body, as well as in functions like perception, attention, and spatial awareness.
Anatomy:
The parietal lobe is divided into two hemispheres, one in each cerebral hemisphere. It is bordered by the frontal lobe anteriorly, the occipital lobe posteriorly, and the temporal lobe inferiorly. The central sulcus separates the parietal lobe from the frontal lobe, while the parieto-occipital sulcus separates it from the occipital lobe.
Functions:
The parietal lobe performs several important functions:
